May 2026 Tour Day 7

Setting off from Nagasaki we headed to the Shimabara Peninsular to take the ferry to Kumamoto. Another beautiful ferry ride followed by a long run up into the mountains to Mount Aso, a large, active volcano. From there a spectacular run through more mountains to the village of Yufuin. Yufuin is a hot spring town set in a bowl high up in the peaks. More on that tomorrow. We stayed in a traditional guesthouse and enjoyed a brilliant dinner at an izakaya followed by an outside hot spring bath. Lush.
